CoverEnergy, transport and environment indicators — 2018 edition

The multi-thematic statistical book Energy, transport and environment indicators comprises a broad set of data collected by Eurostat. It presents the EU’s main indicators for energy, transport and environment that support the design and monitoring of EU policies. The publication provides data for the European Union and its Member States, while some indicators include also data for the EFTA countries, and candidate countries and potential candidates to the EU. CoverMethodologies used in road freight transport in Member States, EFTA and Candidate countries — Revised — 2017 edition

The present document describes the methods used by Member States, candidate and EFTA countries in their surveys on road freight transport statistics. Part I describes national methodologies for data collection. This information is based on questionnaires completed by the reporting countries. Data in these questionnaires refer to the first quarter of 2016. Part II includes summary tables, with the basic information on sampling, response rate, register quality and precision of results of the surveys. Data on the registers used to draw the sample and the sampling methodology are relevant for the surveys conducted in the first quarter of 2016, while the main characteristics given for each country refer to the years 2014 and 2015, according to data availability. ‘Methodologies used in surveys of road freight transport in Member States, EFTA and Candidate Countries’ is published in English only. Transport statistics — 2018 edition
This leaflet presents the statistical data collected by Eurostat on freight and passenger transport for five modes (road, rail, inland waterways, aviation and maritime) in accordance with the related legislation. It also introduces the collection of national and regional data on transport infrastructure, equipment, safety and economy. The leaflet provides links to the Transport website, the database, and to several publications where the reader can find out about the latest statistics, reference manuals and associated legislation. Las estadísticas de seguridad vial preliminares de 2017 que ha publicado hoy la Comisión muestran, por segundo año consecutivo, una disminución de aproximadamente un 2 % en el número de víctimas mortales. En 2017 perdieron la vida en las carreteras de la UE 25 300 personas, es decir, 300 menos que en 2016 (– 2 %) y 6 200 menos que en 2010 (– 20 %). Si bien esta evolución es alentadora, será muy difícil alcanzar el objetivo de la UE de reducir a la mitad las muertes en la carretera entre 2010 y 2020. Además, se calcula que las otras 135 000 personas resultaron gravemente heridas el pasado año, incluida una gran proporción de usuarios vulnerables, como los peatones, ciclistas y motociclistas. Las muertes y lesiones en la carretera afectan, además de a las propias víctimas, a toda la sociedad, pues los costes socioeconómicos[1] que generan cada año rondan los 120 000 millones de euros. Por todo ello, se necesitan nuevos esfuerzos de todos los actores para hacer que las carreteras de Europa sean más seguras. Mientras que las autoridades nacionales y locales se encargan de la mayoría de las acciones cotidianas, como hacer cumplir la normativa y concienciar a los ciudadanos, la Comisión trabaja actualmente en una serie de medidas concretas para lograr progresos sustanciales. Esto será un paso más hacia la «Europa que proteja» propugnada por el presidente Juncker. (RAPID, IP/18/2761, 10.4.2018)
