CoverGlossary for transport statistics — 5th edition — 2019

The present fifth edition of the Glossary is the result of the valuable cooperation between Eurostat, UNECE and ITF (International Transport Forum) which put an effort into harmonising transport statistics at European and international level.

The Glossary comprises 744 definitions and represents a point of reference for all those involved in transport statistics. In this edition, the rail, road, inland waterways, maritime, air and intermodal freight transport chapters have been substantially revised. A new chapter on energy consumption has been added and a new accident section has been annexed to the maritime transport chapter.

The Glossary has been translated into all the official languages of the European Union. The use of illustrations aims to provide a better understanding of the definitions, on the basis that one picture is worth a thousand words. [+]

CoverMethodologies used in road freight transport in Member States, EFTA and Candidate countries — Revised — 2017 edition

The present document describes the methods used by Member States, candidate and EFTA countries in their surveys on road freight transport statistics. Part I describes national methodologies for data collection. This information is based on questionnaires completed by the reporting countries. Data in these questionnaires refer to the first quarter of 2016. Part II includes summary tables, with the basic information on sampling, response rate, register quality and precision of results of the surveys. Data on the registers used to draw the sample and the sampling methodology are relevant for the surveys conducted in the first quarter of 2016, while the main characteristics given for each country refer to the years 2014 and 2015, according to data availability. ‘Methodologies used in surveys of road freight transport in Member States, EFTA and Candidate Countries’ is published in English only.
