This third edition of Key figures on Europe — Statistics illustrated follows on from the success of previous years’ publication. It aims to provide intuitive visualisations, innovative data presentations and more concise text, so users can rapidly obtain an understanding of differences between Member States. The current publication presents the simplified energy balance sheets for 2018, key indicators and time series of key elements of energy balances and statistics for recent years as well as energy flow charts for year 2018. Preliminary 2019 data are shown for the supply side of energy statistics. Energy data are available for all Member States of the European Union as well as United Kingdom, Iceland, Norway, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo (UNSCR 1244/99), Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia. The current publication presents the simplified energy balance sheets for 2017 and time series of key elements of energy balances for the years 2005, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Energy data are available for all Member States of the European Union as well as Iceland, Norway, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo (UNSCR 1244/99), Ukraine and Georgia. The energy balances have been constructed according to Eurostat’s methodology on the basis of the energy content of each source and form of energy. The energy balances are expressed in thousands of tonnes of oil equivalent (ktoe). [+]

Statistics can help to make the complex process of energy more understandable. This is the aim of the digital publication Shedding light on energy in the EU – A guided tour of energy statistics. This new type of publication aims to answer questions on energy most frequently asked by citizens in an original way. Answers are provided through short texts, dynamic infographics, maps, videos, graphs, photos etc. This digital publication provides the statistical background which helps to better understand the challenges faced by the Energy Union.
