The Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs exchange scheme offers an excellent opportunity for new entrepreneurs to acquire relevant skills for managing a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME). The new entrepreneurs will learn how to manage an SME as well as getting familiar with the business environment in another EU country by working with an experienced entrepreneur. European competitiveness report 2009.
European competitiveness is at the centre of analysis of the yearly competitiveness report of the European Commission. Its main focus is on recent changes of the EU's productivity growth, which is the key driver of competitiveness in the long run.
The 2009 edition of the European Competitiveness Report looks at the possible implications of the economic downturn; in particular for productivity and for some of the determinants of future EU competitiveness: the evolution of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China); the role of high-skilled migration; the extent and conditions under which training can boost productivity; and the role of product and labour market regulations in influencing ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) investment. This publication shows the importance of exports for the business services sector and analyses driving forces as well as barriers encountered in exporting. 20% of services supplied by market research enterprises were sold abroad: 11% intra-EU and 9% extra-EU. Other strong exporters were architectural and engineering activities, technical testing and computer services. International market liberalisation has contributed to this situation and the Services Directive is expected to further encourage exports within the EU. [+]
