Study on Statistical data on Women entrepreneurs in Europe

Women represent more than 50% of the European population, but far fewer are taking the plunge to start up their own company.

Women continue to be held back from launching their own companies by a range of barriers including education, stereotypes, lack of confidence and difficulties with access to finance and access to networks. Female creativity and entrepreneurial potential are an under-exploited source of economic growth and new jobs that should be further developed. Encouraging the creation of more women-led businesses will not only bring fresh and creative business ideas, but will also empower the role of women in the society and create new sources of prosperity and jobs. The Commission has just published a study on statistical data on women entrepreneurs in Europe, which shows that women entrepreneurs constitute 29% of entrepreneurs (11.6 million) in Europe*. Since 2008 there has been a slight increase of 3% of women entrepreneurs in the EU. In Europe women constitute the majority of one person enterprises (78%). The areas of business that women prefer are health and social work activities, services and education. [+]

This article presents statistics for the Republic of Korea and for some of the largest Member States of the European Union (EU) on the number of active enterprises, the creation (‘births’) of new enterprises, the survival of such new enterprises and the closure (‘deaths’) of enterprises. This is generally called business demography statistics. The economic sectors covered are the business economy, more specifically industry, construction and services. In technical terms, this corresponds to sections B to N of NACE Rev.2 and the Korean activity classification KSIC, excluding activities of holding companies (K64.2). [+]

CoverThe European System of interoperable Business Registers (ESBRs) - An ESS.VIP project for mutual benefits
Statistical business registers are important infrastructures to build statistics. The ESBRs project aims to pass from the present situation, characterised by disconnected registers, to an efficient system of interoperable statistical business registers, including the EuroGroups Register (EGR) managed by Eurostat. A uniform implementation of the statistical unit "enterprise" will be necessary, allowing between else improved relevance and consistency of business statistics across Europe and domains. The use of the European profiling methodology will provide a better insight on enterprises' activities in the frame of multinational enterprise groups. [+]
