La V Cumbre Unión Africana-Unión Europea tuvo lugar los días 29 y 30 de noviembre en Abiyán y se centró principalmente en el tema de la juventud. La Cumbre reunió a 55 dirigentes de la Unión Africana y a los 28 Estados miembros de la Unión Europea. La UE estuvo representada por el presidente de la Comisión Europea, Jean-Claude Juncker, y por el presidente del Consejo de la UE, Donald Tusk, además de por la Alta Representante de la UE para Asuntos Exteriores y Política de Seguridad y vicepresidenta de la Comisión Europea, Federica Mogherini, el vicepresidente responsable del Mercado Único Digital, Andrus Ansip, y el comisario responsable de Cooperación Internacional y Desarrollo, Neven Mimica. La Unión Africana estuvo representada por su presidente, Alpha Condé, y por el presidente de la Comisión de la Unión Africana, Moussa Faki Mahamat. En su declaración política, los líderes europeos y africanos rubricaron conjuntamente su voluntad de invertir en la juventud para un futuro sostenible y se comprometieron a centrar sus esfuerzos en las prioridades estratégicas. Sobre esta base, la Comisión de la Unión Europea y la Comisión de la Unión Africana presentarán proyectos y programas concretos en un plazo de tres meses. (RAPID, IP/17/5007, 30.11.2017)

Eurostat, at the centre of the European Statistical System, and the Statistics Division of the African Union Commission (AUSTAT), at the centre of the African Statistical System, engage to share good practices and lessons learnt from their experiences in producing statistics across the different domains at regional level.

The Statistics Division of the African Union Commission, the African Centre for Statistics of the United Nation Economic Commission for Africa and the Statistics Department of the African Development Bank, together with the African Capacity Building Foundation, constitute the African Statistical Coordination Committee. They cooperate in strategic initiatives for statistical development in Africa, including the African Charter on Statistics, the Strategy for the Harmonization of Statistics in Africa, the African Statistical Yearbook, etc.

This leaflet presents some highlights from the 2016 edition of the ‘The European Union and the African Union; a Statistical Portrait’, jointly prepared by Eurostat and AUSTAT. The main publication provides a wide range of detailed statistics and offers a broad comparative view of the EU and AU regions in figures. [+]

This ‘statistical portrait’ presents, in 100 pages, a broad comparison between the situation of the European Union, including EFTA members and Candidate Countries, and the African Union and its member states. The publication is jointly produced by Eurostat and the Statistics Division of the African Union Commission (AUSTAT) on the basis of data from both organisations. With data up to and including the year 2014, this ‘portrait’ includes various domains such as demography, health, education, national accounts, trade, and more. Tables in the eight chapters help the user to gain a detailed view on different aspects, such as mobile phone subscriptions, number of teachers, life expectancy, GDP, tourism, etc. An overview chapter presenting statistical comparisons with the rest of the world is also included.
