'The ESS Report' gives you an insider's view into the world of European statistics, produced and disseminated by the European Statistical System (ESS). The 2017 issue focuses on two major topics: 20 years of the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices and the circular economy. It includes contributions from subject specialists, outlining how they tackle these issues at national level. This issue also includes the main initiatives of the ESS undertaken last year and features a joint interview with senior managers from the Statistical Institutes of the Malta and Estonia. The 2016 issue focuses on three major topics: measuring energy efficiency, inequality statistics and managing a modern statistical office in the 21st century. It includes contributions from subject specialists, outlining how they tackle these issues at national level. This issue includes the main initiatives of the ESS undertaken last year and features a joint interview with the Heads of the Statistical Institutes of the Netherlands and Slovak Republic. The European Commissioner in charge of the statistical portfolio, Marianne Thyssen, is also featured in an interview. 'The ESS Report' will give you an insider's view into the world of European statistics, produced and disseminated by the European Statistical System (ESS). This issue includes the main initiatives of the ESS last year and features a joint interview with the Heads of the Statistical Institutes of Latvia and Luxembourg as well as the Head of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board, who look back at the achievements and challenges of 2015. Further articles include an outline of the importance of the ESS peer reviews, concluded in 2015, the role of the indicators for decision-making and monitoring in the EU, and shed light on the challenges linked to the measurement of international migration. Additionally, the magazine features numerous contributions from individual ESS members on the above topics and presents the imaginative way Spain has integrated its statistics onto the outside of its statistical office. CoverThe ESS report 2014 (European Statistical System)

The aim of ‘The ESS Report' is to allow its readers an insider's view into the world of European statistics, produced and disseminated by the European Statistical System (ESS). The current issue explains the organisation of the ESS, presents an overview of its key initiatives in 2014 and focuses, in two separate articles, on the challenges linked to the measurement of globalisation and the modernised methodology for the calculation of GDP, the European System of National and Regional Accounts (ESA 2010), successfully introduced across the ESS last year. Stefan Lundgren, Head of the ESS Partnership Group, uniting Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes, outlines the main challenges for the European Statistical System, while Andreas Georgiou and Giorgio Alleva, Presidents of the Statistical Institutes of Greece and Italy summarise the main results of the European Council Presidencies held by their countries last year. Finally, Ineke Stoop, Chair of the European Statistical Advisory Committee (ESAC), which represents a wide range of private and institutional statistics users, explains ESAC's work and mission.
