Agriculture remains important in most of the ENP-South countries; less by its contribution to the gross value added of the national economy but rather as a source of employment. Linked to the topographic characteristics and the prevailing climatic conditions, the share of land used for agriculture is generally low, except for Tunisia (see Table 1).
The livestock reflects cultural traditions and is dominated by sheep. Morocco and Egypt are the main producers of cereals, although harvested quantities vary substantially according to annual rainfall. Moreover, Egypt is an important producer of fresh vegetables; its production in terms of weight corresponds to more than a third of the total European Union (EU) production. [+]

A los periodistas y humanitarios secuestrados en Siria, y a Marc Marginedas que por fin ha vuelto. Finalmente, tres años después del comienzo de las revueltas populares contra el régimen dictatorial de Siria, la comunidad internacional (sea cual sea el significado real de este término) ha entendido que Asad no va a caer, e incluso -si ello se confirma- saldrá estratégicamente reforzado de esta dramática tragedia. ¿Por qué? Porque si en estos tres años no ha sido derrotado militarmente por los rebeldes, ni políticamente por las diversas facciones de la oposición, ni por un golpe a cargo de una parte de su círculo más próximo, ni por una acción militar exterior (que ya no se producirá), como no ha perdido, ha ganado. Este razonamiento es lo que dicta el canon de la llamada “Teoría de Juegos” tan en boga en las Ciencias Sociales hoy día. ¿Cómo se ha llegado a tal situación? El régimen sirio ha dado toda una lección práctica de política, de táctica y de estrategia, y su continuidad no parece ser hoy en día la peor noticia ni para Israel, ni para EEUU, ni para los gobiernos europeos, ni para casi nadie, excepto la propia población siria. Con más de 130.000 muertos y dos millones y medio de refugiados y desplazados después, se ha llegado a un punto muerto. [+]
