Cultura, ciudades e identidad en Europa

CoverCulture, cities and identity in Europe
Luxemburg, OPOCE, 2016
ISBN: 978-92-830-3199-4

The study addresses political decision makers, professionals in urban administration and planning and cultural players alike, aiming to provide both a qualitative and quantitative analysis of findings highlighting culture, cities and identity in Europe. It also addresses those involved in the wider process of bringing democratic debate and governance to communities. Following the framework proposed by the EESC, it starts with a thorough overview of the facts and figures surrounding the economic contribution of culture in its broad definition. It is then split into four topic areas, which will be examined separately, all the while highlighting unavoidable overlaps and following connections, providing an overview of studies and European good-practice examples which address: - Culture as an instrument for reconverting cities, - Culture as a tool for integration and inclusiveness, and - Culture as a pillar of European identity within Europe and beyond. CoverThe State of European Cities Report, 2016 - Cities leading the way to a better future
European Union, 2016

This report highlights how the unique characteristics of European cities can support the EU priorities of jobs & growth, migration and climate action. Cities boost innovation, embrace people from different backgrounds and reduce our impact on the planet. Cities that operate at the metropolitan scale and have sufficient autonomy and resources can better exploit these urban advantages.

As cities have important investment needs, EU Cohesion Policy will provide more than EUR 100 billion for projects on innovation in SMEs, social integration, low-carbon mobility and energy efficiency in the period 2014-2020. To help cities learn from each other, the report compares the performance of cities and provides examples of policies that have worked.

This report was prepared to support the Urban Agenda for the EU and the new global Urban Agenda adopted. It was jointly produced by the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission and UN-Habitat. [+]

In addition, the new Urban Data Platform, hosted on the Knowledge Centre for Territorial Policies operated by the Joint Research Centre, provides a single access point to common indicators on the status and trends in over 800 European urban areas – on demography, economic development or access to services, for example. This database will enable urban authorities and stakeholders to compare data, benchmark and monitor, which is one of the aims of the Urban Agenda. [+]
